Sky, Peacock name Jackal day

TRAILER: Sky and US streamer Peacock have released a first look teaser of The Day of the Jackal, a 10-part series starring Eddie Redmayne that will debut this November. Redmayne stars alongside Lashana Lynch and Úrsula Corberó in the series, which is described as a modern reimagining of the seminal novel by Frederick Forsyth and subsequent 1973 film from Universal Pictures. An unrivalled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Redmayne) makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake. Money Heist star Corberó plays Nuria, someone at the heart of The Jackal’s personal life, unaware of who he truly is. Other cast members include Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Timothy Winthrop, Richard Dormer (Blue Lights) as Norman, Chukwudi Iwuji (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3) as Osita Halcrow, Lia Williams (The Capture) as Isabel Kirby, Khalid Abdalla (The Crown) as Ulle Dag Charles,  Eleanor Matsuura (The Walking Dead) as Zina Jansone, Jonjo O’Neill (Andor) as Edward Carver, Nick Blood (Slow Horses) as Vince, Sule Rimi (Classified) as Paul Pullman and Florisa Kamara (Eastenders) as Jasmin Pullman. The series is produced by Carnival Films and is written and adapted by Ronan Bennett (Top Boy). Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones) is the lead director. Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant are executive producers for Carnival Films. Redmayne is also an executive producer, and Lynch a co-executive producer on the project. … Continue reading Sky, Peacock name Jackal day →

Tall Tudor tale

The Tudors might be an evergreen subject for historical dramas, but in the hands of My Lady Jane showrunners Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn, history is almost unrecognisable. They outline how they created this dramatic alt-history series that imagines a different future for Lady Jane Grey. When it comes to dramas based on British royal history, the Tudor period – best known for King Henry VIII and his six wives – is the era that keeps on giving. Earlier this year, Disney+ launched murder mystery Shardlake, while the long-awaited sequel to Wolf Hall – Wolf Hall: The Mirror & The Light – is finally on the horizon. The Tudors also leant their name to the title of an HBO series, Becoming Elizabeth explored the titular monarch’s formative years, The Spanish Princess followed Catherine of Aragon’s journey from Spain to become Henry’s first wife, and Anne Boleyn took the perspective of Henry’s doomed second wife. “I think about this a lot, and I sometimes wonder if it’s because it’s one of the earliest periods in British history from which we have an awful lot of material from the time,” suggests Gemma Burgess. “It also just feels so full of passion and real people. Every time you open a book, you’re like, ‘Wait, Robert Dudley’s wife was maybe pushed down the stairs and Elizabeth was behind it.’ There are just so many stories. We’re almost spoilt for stories to pick up and put down.” “And it was a time when these powerful … Continue reading Tall Tudor tale →
