The Split takes on Barcelona
BBC legal drama The Split will return for a two-part special as stars Nicola Walker, Annabel Scholey and Fiona Button reunite for filming in Barcelona.
Produced by Sister, the double episode of Abi Morgan’s series is set two years after a series finale that saw Hannah (Walker) and Nathan (Stephen Mangan) separate after 20 years together and navigate their way through a “good divorce.”
Now, formidable family lawyer Hannah and her family have gathered for a beautiful wedding at a magnificent vineyard, nestled in Catalonia’s wine region. Set across one sun soaked weekend, the story promises break-ups, reunions and plenty of romance as Hannah is compelled to banish the ghosts of her past and open herself up to the possibility of love again. Can she find the courage to take the leap into a new future?
New cast members include Toby Stephens (Black Sails) as Archie Moore, while Walker returns alongside Mangan, Scholey, Button, Deborah Findlay, Ian McElhinney, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Elizabeth Roberts and Alex Guersman.
The Split debuted in 2018 and concluded in 2022 after three seasons. The Split special will air later this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer ahead of forthcoming spin-off The Split Up.
The two-parter is written by Abi Morgan (River, Suffragette, The Hour), directed by Giulia Gandini (Shetland) and produced by Jennie Fava (The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin).
It is executive produced by Jane Featherstone (Chernobyl, Giri-Haji), Lucy Dyke (The Split) and Abi Morgan. BBC Studios will distribute the special internationally.
