Apple TV+ is reuniting with Mick Herron, the writer of the books that inspired its series Slow Horses, for a new drama starring Emma Thompson (Sense & Sensibility) and Ruth Wilson (Luther).

Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson

Down Cemetery Road, based on Herron’s novel of the same name, will star Thompson as struggling Oxford private eye Zoë Boehm, while Wilson is Sarah Tucker, who becomes obsessed with the whereabouts of a child she believes to have gone missing.

When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbour Sarah Tucker becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm. Zoë and Sarah suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals that people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.

Morwenna Banks (Funny Woman) is set to adapt Herron’s novel, with Natalie Bailey (Audrey) as lead director.

The series is executive produced by Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films, alongside Banks, Thompson and Herron.

Espionage drama Slow Horses, starring Gary Oldman, is based on Herron’s Slough House book series and has been renewed for a fifth season. Season three debuted in November 2023.
