MGM+, Prime Video call on Spider-Noir
FIRST LOOK: Nicolas Cage takes on his first leading television role in Spider-Noir, a series that will be available to stream both in black and white and full colour when it debuts in the US on MGM+ and worldwide on Prime Video this spring.
Spider-Noir is a live-action series based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir, telling the story of Ben Reilly (Cage), a seasoned, down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.
Back in the day, Ben was the superhero known as The Spider – until he stepped away from his heroic alter ego. Only an extraordinary case could call this down-on-his-luck private investigator to drop the ordinary man act and put his mask back on.
Robbie Robertson (Lamorne Morris) is a dedicated journalist trying to make it in 1930s New York with the odds stacked against him. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career as well as his best friend, Ben.
Cat Hardy (Li Jun Li) is the star attraction at the premiere nightclub in New York. It may seem like she is always looking out for herself, but the truth is more complex than meets the eye.
Janet (Karen Rodriguez) is a smart, scrappy and loyal secretary to Ben. She wants to help her boss and his small business become successful, and she has zero problem speaking truth to power.
The cast also includes Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. Guest cast includes Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson and Kai Caster.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the series will be available to watch in both ‘authentic black and white’ and ‘true-hue full colour.’
Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) directed and executive produced the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram) are co-showrunners and executive producers.
Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series with the team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. Lord and Miller executive produce for Lord Miller along with Aditya Sood and Dan Shear. Amy Pascal is an executive producer via Pascal Pictures. Cage and Pavlina Hatoupis are also executive producers.
