First Look

FIRST LOOK: Warren Brown, Vinette Robinson, Sadie Soverall and Eva Morgan lead The Gathering, a six-part thriller coming soon to Channel 4.

Written by novelist Helen Walsh (The Lemon Grove, Once Upon A Time In England) in her first original screenplay for television, newcomer Morgan plays working-class student Kelly, who is attacked at an illicit rave on a tidal islet.

Described as a why-done-it, the story focuses on a group of disparate teenagers and their parents, with each character having a motive for attacking Kelly. An accomplished gymnast, on the National Team pathway, Kelly is committed to her strict training schedule but finds freedom and liberation in the joyous, unregulated world of free running.

Each episode then explores a different character’s perspective to give insight into the respective worlds of these teenagers and their families and allows the viewer to speculate who committed the crime.

Soverall plays Jessica, a friend and elite gymnastics teammate who seemingly has it all. Robinson plays Jessica’s controlling and toxic mother Natalie and Brown is Kelly’s hard working father Paul, who struggles with his own impulse control.

The cast also includes Richard Coyle as successful solicitor Jules, Sonny Walker as Adam, Ryan Quarmby as Charlie and newcomer Luca Kamleh-Chapman as Bazi.

Filmed and set in Liverpool and around Merseyside, The Gathering is produced by World Productions (Vigil, Line of Duty). The executive producers are Simon Heath, Laura Cotton, Helen Walsh and Gareth Bryn. The producer is Graham Drover. Gareth Bryn will direct (Episodes 1, 2, 5 and 6) with Amanda Blue (Episodes 3 and 4).

ITV Studios will handle international distribution.
