BBC releases Prisoner 951 first look
FIRST LOOK: Narges Rashidi and Joseph Fiennes star in upcoming BBC drama Prisoner 951, a factual drama telling the story of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe who spent six years inside an Iranian prison and her husband’s quest for justice.
Rashidi (Gangs of London) plays Nazanin, a British-Iranian citizen who was imprisoned and held hostage by the Iranian state for six years, with Fiennes (Dear England) as her husband Richard Ratcliffe who campaigned for justice and her return.
The four-part series covers Nazanin and Richard’s ordeal, which captured the world’s attention, from Nazanin’s arrest at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran to her release and return to the UK six years later.
Based on the forthcoming book A Yard of Sky, written by Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Ratcliffe, it written by Stephen Butchard (This City Is Ours) and directed by Philippa Lowthorpe (Three Girls, The Crown).
It is produced by Dancing Ledge Productions (The Salisbury Poisonings) and will launch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
Prisoner 951 was filmed on location in Greece and the UK. Fremantle is handling international sales.
