FIRST LOOK: The BBC has released new images from Ludwig, its upcoming crime procedural starring David Mitchell, ahead of its launch this autumn on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Reclusive puzzle-setter John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor (Mitchell) sees his life of solitude turned upside down when his identical twin brother, James, disappears without a trace. In a quest to track James down, Ludwig assumes his brother’s identity, but by taking over every aspect of James’s life, Ludwig is forced to confront his own.

Unlike Ludwig, James is no hermit; he’s a family man and a highly respected DCI within Cambridge’s busy Major Investigations Team.

For Ludwig, playing dad to a ready-made family proves every bit as challenging as tackling the grisliest of crime scenes. However, Ludwig does have one big advantage – his ability to see the world in puzzle form. John may be a master of all things cryptic, but can he crack the biggest puzzle of his life?

Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland, Line of Duty) stars as Lucy Betts-Taylor, John’s sister-in-law and wife of his missing brother James.

The cast also includes Dipo Ola (Landscapers) as DI Russell Carter, Gerran Howell (Catch-22) as DC Simon Evans, Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point) as DS Alice Finch, Dylan Hughes (Malory Towers) as Henry Betts-Taylor, Dorothy Atkinson (Mum) as DCS Carol Shaw, Sophie Willan (Alma’s Not Normal) as Holly Pinder and Ralph Ineson (The Witch) as Chief Constable Ziegler.

Guest stars include Derek Jacobi, Felicity Kendal, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Karl Pilkington, Allan Mustafa (People Just Do Nothing), Paul Chahidi (This Country) and Hammed Animashaun (Black Ops).

The six-part series comes from Big Talk Studios in association with That Mitchell And Webb Company. It is written and created by Mark Brotherhood.

The executive producers are Kenton Allen, Mark Brotherhood, Saurabh Kakkar, David Mitchell, Kathryn O’Connor and Chris Sussman, the producer is Georgie Fallon and the directors are Robert McKillop and Jill Robertson.

ITV Studios will handle international sales.
