FIRST LOOK: Malachi Kirby, Erin Doherty and Stephen Graham reunite in 1880s London for the second season of A Thousand Blows, which debuts on Disney+ in the UK & Ireland and Hulu in the US on January 9, 2026.

Inspired by the true-life stories of a group of characters battling for survival in the brutal East End of London in the 1880s, season two picks up one year after the events of season one. Hezekiah (Kirby)’s a shadow of the man he once was whilst Sugar Goodson (Graham) is estranged from his family and drinking himself to death.

Just as Wapping is about to sigh its last breath, Mary Carr (Doherty) bursts back into town with her loyal second, Alice Diamond, to reassemble her gang and reclaim her crown. As always, Mary has a plan; one which will involve all those she holds dearest. And this time it’s riskier than ever.

Returning cast for season two also includes James Nelson-Joyce as Edward “Treacle” Goodson, Darci Shaw as Alice Diamond, Hannah Walters as Eliza Moody, Nadia Albina as Verity Ross, Morgan Hilaire as Esme Long, Jemma Carlton as Belle Downer, Caoilfhionn Dunne as Anne Glover, Jason Tobin as Mr Lao, Susan Lynch as Jane Carr, Daniel Mays as William ‘Punch’ Lewis, Gary Lewis as Jack Mac, Aliyah Odoffin as Victoria Davies and Robert Glenister as Indigo Jeremy.

Ned Dennehy and Catherine McCormack join the ensemble cast as Bull Jeremy and Sophie Lyons, respectively.

Series creator Steven Knight returns as writer and executive producer, along with episodic writers Yasmin Joseph, Harlan Davies, Insook Chappell and Ameir Brown. Season two is directed by Katrin Gebbe (episodes 1-3) and Dionne Edwards (episodes 4-6).

A Thousand Blows is executive produced by Graham and Walters for Matriarch Productions, Damian Keogh and Kate Lewis for The Story Collective, Tom Miller and Sam Myer for Water & Power Productions, and Jonny Richards for Disney+. Broadcaster and historian Professor David Olusoga is an executive producer on the series with Tom Miller as series producer, Stephen Haren and Charlotte Robinson producing, and Carolyn Parry-Jones as coproducer.
